W&M Game

Anyone coming to the William and Mary game at the spacious home of the Spiders - kindly reach out to Win or me. Responses have been spotty and we want to make certain we can all get together. Actually - just hit me on cell and I will spread the word and share any info we have - 804-380-5787. I have just about healed from Homecoming a few weeks ago and am ready to get back in the game. I was able to secure a distant and intimate spot for the Villanova game and I may be able to recreate the magic.

Famous Basketball Player poses with cardboard cut-out of Aronson...

I have an Aronson facsimile that can be borrowed for parties, tailgates, etc. Just like he's there...

Vince - give it back! We need it for the William and Mary game!

Reunion Opportunity

On 17 NOV 07 at noon, the Spiders will play William and Mary for the true championship of the Commonwealth. We will secure some tailgate spots and have already received clearance from the University and the Undergrads for an ALUMNI EVENT at the lodge following the game (roughly 4 PM). This will be a family-friendly affair, so feel free to bring the crew. We are extremely interested in knowing who may want to be part of this event in order to plan the logistics. Local alumni will coordinate the catering and beverages and to cover the expenses will collect a relatively nominal per-head fee at the event. Any funds collected that exceed the costs of the event will be put into the alumni board's account for management of the chapter. More details to follow, but at your earliest convenience k indly express interest by replying to this e-mail if you are planning to attend so that we may plan accordingly.

The alumni board is also looking for volunteers (ideally one from each graduating year) to help disseminate, and contribute to, an alumni e-mail newsletter. Not a big deal or a burden to any individual, but anyone who can help us assemble the requisite e-mail addresses for each class would be rewarded by Richard Spurgeon Owens in heaven. We are very interested in having a greater level of communication and participation in alumni events by brothers. Information is available on www.sigeprichmond.org and my lame-ass blog at www.spebros.blogspot.com Posts at the blog are very welcome, as long as they do not offend Jim Monroe. If interested in volunteering just let me know via e-mail.

In addition to trying to provide some events worthy of fraternal reunion, we want to try to help get brothers in touch with distant friends. Any help is greatly appreciated. Please call or e-mail with any questions, concerns, or points of personal interest. Finally, if you are in touch w/ any brothers who are not on the address list for this e-mail, please forward to them with a "cc" to me.

HFF,

Regis C. Dean

Me Bad BlogMaster

I have heard from several brothers who have tried and failed to post to this blog. Mea Culpa. I guess I have some settings messed up. At any rate some have succeeded, so I would like to keep this thing going if at all possible.

For those concerned I visited the Dirty Dog, David Mullaney, this past week. He lives in a wonderful bungalow right in Carolina Beach, NC. He was a wonderful host, but I did suffer from some splinters beer sliding on his tiny deck.

The summer gathering never seemed to materialize, but we may try to do something around the UR/W&M game this year. It is usually a good time to get together as the the real VA powerhouses get together to decide the championship of the Commonwealth. FWIW - if anyone comes to town, whenever, give me a call and I can try to get a few bros together...

For those who wish to share a kind memory...

Sherry Will and Mrs. Sue Will (Rich's older sister and Mom @ the same address)
1428 Conestoga Road
Chester Springs PA 19425
Dr. Louis R. Will (Rich's dad)
505 Fox Run Lane
Bryn Mawr, Pa. 19010 610-525-3845.
Jeanine Zaeger Will
7513 75th St. North
Pinellas Park, Fla. 33781.

Above are the addresses of Rich's family. I understand that they greatly appreciate hearing from Rich's friends, and a short note of remembrance would go a long way to help their healing. When my father passed earlier this year, nothing warmed my heart more than hearing a few words from the people who knew my father when he was young and vital. A short reminiscence of a happy time shared brought my father to life and made me feel a part of his youth. Maybe we can find a moment or two to write down a memory of Rich, of the great times we shared before we knew loss and years took us all down different paths.

In Memoriam, sadly confirmed

The following is a paraphrase of information that was shared by a friend:

Ten years ago Rich moved to Florida. Met a girl who he married in 2003. they
started a landscaping business together....he was, according to Sherry (his sister), Happy, working hard, and in love. They didn't have children.

On Dec. 2 of 2005, he was working a site---using a bobcat---got out of the bobcat to adjust something on the ground, and a tree fell out of the bucket. His wife, who worked with him, was there and desperately tried to move the tree, but to no avail.

I am trying to grasp the whole thing still. I was not in touch with Rich after college and can only remember him as a great, witty, fun and caring person. Seeing his name listed in the In Memoriam section of the alumni magazine made me shudder and hope there was a mistake. I can list many times when he said or did things that made me happy that I knew him and that he was my friend. Sadly, I did not keep in touch with Rich, or some others who were special in some way. I will always remember him as a young man with laughing eyes and an infectious smile. I think we can all remember that smile. He seemed to be a person that had it all together.

At any rate, he did not suffer long, never grew old, and was with his loved one when his spirit passed. I hope he is in peace, and may God grant me such an exit. Though I have not spoken with Rich in many years, my world feels smaller now and I hope that I told him that I valued him as a friend. I can remember the first time we met, but cannot remember ever saying goodbye...

In Memoriam

I just received the Richmond Alumni Magazine and was very saddened to see the name of Richard S. Will, class of '90, of Bryn Mawr PA listed in the In Memoriam section. I sincerely hope that someone is in touch with brother Will and that this is not the same person I know. It appears that the person listed actually passed on 02 FEB 05. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Rich? I am seriously hoping this is an error or someone else...

Looking at That "Picture" of Toast...

First thing that came to mind was Keith Murray..."She was a showgirl. A cheap showgirl!"

Photos are being doctored

It was great catching up with Brother Aronson again. It brought back a lot of great memories. I look forward to getting together somewhere in MD. It would be great to include the wife and kids.
Kudos to Regis. I love the blog and I hope to see more folks post. I must go on the record to say that the picture of "the law" was quite disturbing. He looks 20 years old. I can't help but think that photo was doctored :)

Regards,

Brother Ubriaco

Non Work Address

I put together this blog so we would not have numerous SPE related e-mails in our in-boxes at work. You can check this from home and post with any gmail account. Please let me know if you want me to substitute your home e-mail address in the list. I want to make this a painless place where we can connect without having to impact our businesses. Any suggestions welcomed...

Summertime Get-Together

Some of us have been floating the idea of having a gathering this summer to allow us all to tell some lies about college and the things we have done since. There seem to be two schools of thought: a gentlemen's gathering where we flaunt our worst; or a family gathering where we share our kids and memories. It seems that the MD area is pretty central because of the concentration of bros in the Richmond area and the proximity to those that settled in the northeast (~NGT 4 hrs either way). I would be inclined to doing something at a camping area where our kids could tear it up while we re-engaged with old friends and met each others families. Kindly share some thoughts around this idea and float some dates. Maybe over a weekend we roast a pig and have more kegs than Alison Bartell would approve. Weigh in with some ideas that we could build upon. Post those ideas, and we will let the fur fly...

Mun Chi-chi (Mike Marino)

Anybody ever see or hear from Mike? I know Booter and I tried many times to reach out through his parents in Port Jeff (NY), but nothing ever came of it.

Regis
Thanks for putting this together. I was on vacation last week and spent a night just reading. It brought back a load of memories.

Joy Boy
Thnaks for getting this started. I appreciate the effort. We will all benefit because of you.
Thanks to all who post as well/

20 years... or more.

Wow - looking through these names takes me waaayy back. Thanks to J Fish for getting me connected. Looks like with Steve A. and Joe that we have a couple of brothers that have settled in NY. Fellas - I live in New Canaan and am in NYC on calls a couple times of month. We've got to get together, catch-up, and throw down a few! Thanks for doing this Regis! Baltimore sounds like a great call.

Hello from Mullaney

Hey gang, I hope all is well. Great to c so many names from the past!!!

I am down in Wilmington, NC enjoying the beach life with my family if anybody is ever down here look me up. Married, two children.

Just back from Manila, Philippines where I met a fellow University of Richmond Pike who is running my company's cafeteria. He should have pledged Sig-Ep instead!! Ha He would be successful like Regis!

YO...SKINNY

The connections continue.................

Yesterday, Joe Ubriaco and I met up in Grand Central Station for a reunion of our own. I think we probably had not seen eachother in over 15yrs. It was awesome seeing Joey U. He has not aged and is still shooting hoops with a passion. The half hour we spent together put us both back 20 years in time.

Also spoke with "PSYCHED" Scott King yesterday. He too sounded just like the guy I knew in school.

Left a voice message for "Spe"-Goss, and Pete Swayze. Hopefully we'll hear something back.

Until then, have a great day, filled with virtue, diligence and brotherly love.

Steve

DAMN...............

It's great to see all those names - it's been a long time (god a really long time).

Thanks Rege for setting this up - nice job.

dwjuros@yahoo.com

I've passed to Jake, Nelly, Jeff Sheih and Trevor and asked them to pass on.

Just Surfed Through...

Where did "Da Law" find the fountain of youth?

The rest of the guys look like I do 20 years later, and Pete looks like he should still be constructively mentoring (hazing) pledges.

I sent an invite to Juros to tap into more of the class of '90.

Rege,

I actually told the story of the genesis of TNUC the other day. Your influence carries forward.

Great Idea and Have Another Name

Almost spammed this the first time through. Glad the Boy of Joy sent a reminder.

Got another name to add to the list.

Hugger can be found at davidbcowell@yahoo.com.

I'll send him an invite.

Catch up w/ Brother Ubriaco

Joe called me last night and we had a great catch up. He is doing well and is quite busy with his wife and three children !! We plan on grabbing a quick lunch today.

After speaking with Joe, I had a flashback of the fond memories of our hardyball team beating the "unstoppable E-Bags of SAE". Mullaney mooning their little sisters, and The Greek snaring that final interception. For me, that was a day that left an imprint of achievement and togetherness I have rarely felt with a group of men ever again.

Again, we all should thank Regis Dean for building this site. He was up until 2 in the a.m. last Friday. He worked as diligently that night as he did cleaning the girls bathroom in the spring of '84 while pledging in our inagural spring pledge class. **** TRIVIA: CAN YOU NAME 5 OF THE PLEDGES FROM THE SPRING OF '84 CLASS ? ****

E-mail thread

John,I truly hope this was meant in jest. Perhaps as I have aged my recognition of humor is a bit dull. If it was not meant in jest, that is not only unfortunate, but in my opinion inappropriate for this forum. In any case, ALL of us look forward to reuniting and seeing you. Steve-----

Re: Hello BrothersGents-Good you read about many of you still being alive and so forth. I would like to ask Jim Monroe be stricken from the chain, as I reached out to him on numerous occasions during my tenure in the greater Washington area and was essentially told - "You're not married, therefore we do not have enough in common for me to bother catching a few cocktails with you." Now, I realize with all the holy friendship floating about many of you will think we should give him another chance. I can live with that but wanted to get my thoughts on the subject out there, which are;fuck himMerely one man's opinion. And I do seem to have married and procreated since suffering his abuse. So it goes,John415-305-1984On 4/27/07,

Last night was a banner night. We got feedback from brothers Van Buren, Little, Ciriello, Cowell and Lambert. Smeetay and I even chatted yesterday. Looks like we're building a thought into reality. Now that the ball is rolling and we are getting some tangible numbers, I suggest we take some thought and care to how we can best pull this off, ensuring the greatest attendance. I had suggested coming up to NY, but we have many who still live near the lodge (I hear Rege, Casey, Win and DaNolt still hang at the lodge with Beau Hotchkiss), and in fact Remco recommended we rent the lodge. Many of us are way up north as well. Therefore, my suggestion would be that we look into any potential gathering spots somewhere in the middle. Richmond to NYC is about 7 hrs, so how about a location 3.5 hrs between. Please throw in any suggestions. Maybe a public camping grounds where we can reserve space, tables, playground for kids, ball field ..etc....? HFF, Boy.
